Wow,that's pretty neat stuff, especially the first shot.
I remember finding in the Fine Arts library a book of drawings that was full of animals. It started each series with a drawing of the complete animal and then stripped layer after layer down to the bone. It was really pretty amazing.
And I have no idea what the book was called. Alas.
It is a pretty good cross section of the hoof. Pity my camera was grumpy about the light levels, so there's a little camera shake. Oh, and the other two are the inner side of the hind leg (you can sorta see the critter's butthole at the lower right of the photos). I didn't get any shots of the outer side.
Yeah, the hoof is great. The detail is pretty clear.
At first I don't think I realised that you took them. But of course, I probably didn't think that you'd have easy access to something like that, either.
I found out about the local Bodyworks exhibit right as they were at the last weekend, and already sold out. No, this is just what happens when you go on hot dates with vet students.
The first image would make an excellent reference for a science illustration.. do you have any more shots, like a head on view? Well, as head on as you can get to a hoof cross section.. :P
The leg's at a slight angle, I was wondering if you had any shots of it that weren't. Well, I guess I wouldn't be a very good illustrator if I had to have a perfect photo.. :)
Yes, draw what you mean. :) It's cut lengthwise along the middle, showing the side of the leg. Here (http://www.horseshoes.com/anatomy/horsesense/horsesense.htm)'s someone else's.
